The Owl

The earth needed help keeping watch at night
So she asked the birds for help
But the eagle was too arrogant
The parrot was too carefree
And the peacock was too vain
“I will help” said the little owl
“Even though I am weak, uptight and ugly”
So the earth thanked the little owl for helping
And rewarded her with gifts to help keep watch at night
And that is why owls can see in the dark
Turn their heads to look in any direction
And are wise enough to understand
Why the earth makes sure
All the other birds
Sleep at night
